I‘m not a shipper and I agree that she probably won’t go see the play because of JKR, but honestly I‘m a bit annoyed by people thinking Emma isn‘t or shouldn‘t be close to Tom. You are not better than the shippers. She has said and written multiple teams that Tom is very close to her, that they love each other (like a kinship, nothing romantic). And during the podcast Emma was very clear about being her ability to love despite having different opinions etc. People who say she should should distance herself from Tom are treating her like some stupid girl who isn‘t able to make good decisions for herself. Tom Felton is not right-wing, he isn’t a political person.
Tom saying something positive about JKR doesn’t equal him being against Emma. He didn’t praise JKR for her activism (aka hate) but for the books she wrote and the world she created - a world that played a very big role in his life. In fact I saw a post from him years ago that showed that he is the opposite of transphob. But he isn’t very political in general. Emma and others have described him as someone with a big heart. He basically wants to be kind to everyone. Maybe we need more people like him in the world. People who don’t only see black and white. People who don‘t pick sides. I understand the urge to pick sides but nowadays people from both sides are so hateful towards each other…I don’t think we should answer hate with more hate, but break the cycle. Both Tom and Emma are good rolemodels for that.

Rowling has said any proceeds that are made by HP and HP related things, including fan conventions are going to be donated to anti trans organizations and charities… That play is going to run until May of 2026… Tom might be spineless and privileged but he’s not stupid… NOBODY held a gun to his head and forced him to take the role or the money. He did because he sided with Terfling and if I was Emma I wouldn’t go to that fuckass play under any condition. I’d probably be rethinking our friendship as well…
Sorry but if Emma decides to go to this play she is the one who will face backlash and problems. Not anyone else. Tom will only benefit because he will get more attention and more publicity. Tom was brought up because he's unable to let go of HP, no matter how much time passes, unlike the majority of the cast. And given how Rowling has specified that she still loves and supports those on her side and how she's allowed Tom to take part only in CC but the remake as well, it's clear who he sided with. While I agree that the job market here is absolute trash... as a fellow LGBT member, I couldn't in good faith work on a play that is funding somebody like Terfling and her vendetta against trans people. It would be different if the theater where the play is performed in was threatening to terminate my contract ... however, as far as I know, that's not happening. Also Tom isn't living paycheck to paycheck like most Americans trying to make a living are. He's willingly doing all of this, knowing what the money being made from his likeness and name is going towards. That's why people concentrate their energy on Tom. He’s always somebody who refuses to take a stand on literally anything that will result in people disagreeing with him publicly.
