EMMA'S DIRECTORIAL DEBUT! (... again. Did they forget the short?)

Emma had an exclusive interview with WWD:

"I think it was serendipitous that Prada came to me with this project. It was around the time when I had decided in my heart, and my head, that I wanted to direct something. I found the concept of being a woman who’s a paradox so interesting. Something that really stuck out to me when I was sent the idea for the fragrance was that Prada is about upstream narratives. And I instantly though, ‘Oh my god, that’s me, that’s how I feel.’ I feel like I’m always running against the current. I’m really curious, I try to be a free-thinker as much as one can be, given the constraints of the society and the system we live in. It grabbed my attention. I really wanted to be part of something that gives women more strength, freedom, power and self-confidence That’s what I feel when I read the story of why Prada Paradoxe had been created. I instantly felt that I have always been a paradox. Prada Paradoxe gave me permission."

Watson believes she has wanted to direct since she was seven years old.

"I don’t think I thought it was a possibility. No one offered me the directing job. I had to give myself permission. I had to ask. I love telling stories. I think I’m good at it. I think I have a vision."

Watson explained that as a director for Prada, she wanted to find material that wouldn’t bore her, which she felt good about living inside of and exploring daily, intensively.

"I felt that way about Prada Paradoxe and combined with the sustainability aspect, it set my imagination alight with possibilities. To be partnered with a company like Prada and L’Oréal, the scope and the scale of what you can achieve is so exciting."

Watson said Miuccia Prada "has historically explored the space beyond traditional models and archetypes of conceived beauty and what is considered beautiful. She’s always been known for femininity that challenges conventions, a kind of femininity that doesn’t shy away from its femaleness, but that also challenges stereotypes. I think it’s obvious just by the name of the fragrance, Prada Paradoxe: For them to have taken a profound philosophical concept and make it the name of a fragrance is huge."

Watson considers fragrance to be "a blueprint of a person, of a soul. It’s much more sensorial and emotional and memory-based. It’s not about achieving beauty, it’s actually much more intimate and personal. It’s about the relationship that a woman has with herself.

"Emma Watson was for us the best embodiment of the Prada woman, being an actor, an activist and also an artist. We believe that she perfectly epitomizes modern femininity, rewriting also its codes for a new generation."

After Watson was approached, she connected with this new expression of femininity, according to Andrea. Along with directing, she features in the advertising – showing yet another element of her multifaceted character.

"Emma has been deeply involved also in the creation of the campaign," said Andrea. The Prada Beauty team worked closely with the designers Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons on Prada Paradoxe, as well.

I can't wait to share this piece of my art, and hope that you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it. I could never have done this without my unbelievable team of collaborators. "I celebrate my imperfections"

Sorry, but an awful haircut is not an imperfection, it's just a bad call.

Be afraid, be very afraid;

She portrays a seeming benevolence, charm and beauty, and offers friendship to the people of Earth. In reality, she is fierce, tyrannical and manipulative.....

SHE LOOKS GORGEOUS

so i know the theory is its a wig but it looks like her real hair? I'm i crazy???... but when did she cut and regrow her hair so fast was she missing for enough months for that to happen in 2022? lol

Anonymous said...

I don't like her wig and at any moment of her daily life I see her more beautiful than in the photos. I'm not a fan of such extravagant fashion. I only see her completely beauty in the capture of her ad and with her green dress. I don't know what crazy person came up with the wig. She looks a thousand times better with her natural hair.

Anonymous said...

nah its wig, good lighting and photoshop to trick your eye she didnt cut her hair any point in 2022 to be that length we have candids for every month or pap shots or sightings to know it was never that short

Anonymous said...

Um well emma is in charge of the direction so the 'crazy person' you speak of is her lol

It's clear that people in the comments have no idea what edotorial pictures and concepts look like. Some things are not supposed to look good. Emma cares more about the art of pictures rather than just looking good in front of the camera.

condescending; having or showing an attitude of patronizing superiority.

well i like it, lea seydoux vibes from her expressions to me very pleasing, god i wish emma and lea work together sometime xD

When is the video coming out!

"When is the video coming out!"

I'm guessing when the fragrance is coming out so in 4 days. Or maybe a bit sooner.

And what about it? Some more know about fashion than others.

the fragrance is comint out 26 august...

Eden said...

WWD said "The new women’s fragrance is due out starting Aug. 22." I guess it depends on the country.

Then why u aren't publish my comments? Iam obviously joking part of.Ok whatever. If u wish. It is your place...

Anonymous said...

The fragrance is quite generic which is a shame as it could of been more avant garde to match the advert.

"Then why u aren't publish my comments?"

I don't remember seeing your username before so I'm definitely not not allowing your comments specifically on purpose. I monitor comments, not people.

lol I posted the first comment when there was only that one photo in the orange and obviously ruffled some feathers here. Y'all know you can love a person and dislike a photo of them, right? It's not the end of the world. Do I love the wig? No. But the pictures right next to the orange pic with the trench coat are much better angles and look loads better! And you def don't have to 'understand editorial pictures' or whatever to like a photo...like? I just don't like it? I LOVE the green dress pic!

people are defensive as emma has been getting dragged none stop for about 2 years now with every move she makes so people don't really have time for any negative comments anymore

Anonymous said...

Not her most attractive look. I think she was going for severe androgyny, which is cool for a beauty line, but the makeup isn't doing her any favors. She looks much prettier just directing the video. Of course it's more about whether the look sells the products, but in terms of sheer aesthetic appeal, it's not her best look. But then, not everything is about whether it makes non-beauty-product-buyin' dudes like me happy.

I'm looking forward to the video, whenever it's posted. It's actually Emma's second directed piece, as she did that short for the artist a few months ago.

who tf is this womaan? i wouldn't say she looks bad though i kinda like it.

The whole 'paradox' angle really feels like an overly convoluted way to convince people with more money than sense to buy expensive perfume ( and weird looking clothing quite often ), but then again that type of person really loves the pseudo-philosophical nonsense about pushing the boundaries of beauty and fashion, which nicely explains the awful wig and over-sized clothes for the campaign. I hope Emma got a good pay-day regardless, it's just nice to see her, even if I do have to avoid the Romulan/Vulcan cosplay photos to avoid wanting to stab my eyes out in horror...

i gotta agree with comment. for me she always looks beautifullll, but yes her natural look is much more beautiful

Aldrich said...

Emma probs realize that as well cuz the only picture that she posted was really beautiful (?)

"The whole 'paradox' angle really feels like an overly convoluted way to convince people with more money than sense to buy expensive perfume....."

Agree with every word in your post.

I don't know about anyone else but I buy perfume because I like the scent.
I described a previous Prada ad (before the big 'reveal') as word salad.
Similarly the idea that someone would purchase a perfume based on a celebrity's endorsement bewilders me (irrespective of whether it is Emma or God help us Paris Hilton).

Can't wait to see the whole thing. Not sure about the short hair now that I see it fully. Will need to see it better

Love that photo of her in the green outfit

Anonymous said...

I like the ad, it's very refreshing, like Emma said "Love your imperfections" but still haters gonna hate, hate, hate

Eden have a giid day!

Anonymous said...

I can't wait for the video ad, I'm really glad for her, that she keeps persuing whatever she wants to do either it's directing or acting, both, as long as she's happy, only time will tell whatever happens to her career in the future, good for her that she's trying build up a name for herself without the shadow of harry potter

Do you think we'll have news today?

She looks gorgeous and really classy
