Emma Watson might attend a court hearing for speeding

[Version française]

According to the Sun, Emma admitted doing 38mph (61kmh) in a 30mph (48kmh) zone on July 31 last year, court records show. She was at the wheel of her £30,000 blue motor when she set off a camera on Banbury Road, Oxford. She, who was studying creative writing at the city’s university at the time, was charged by post and pleaded guilty on March 3. But she ticked a box indicating she wished to have a full court hearing, which she may now choose to attend next Wednesday at High Wycombe magistrates’ court. At the hearing, Ms Watson could try to mitigate the charges by claiming there were unique circumstances.

Highly unlikely she’ll attend, she’ll send her lawyer

Truly the worst time to be an Emma fan nothing but L's for years now xD

It’s 8mph over, bit of perspective would be good…

hitting some at close to 30 compared to at close to 40 can make all the difference in their survival its the law to drive that speed for reason and pretty serious ngl odd to see this from emma

the emma watson jail era will be fun

Me too Emma! Me too!
Except I was 21 (Maybe 22 to 25) over, and also head to court.

And I suspect that without paparazzi it's wouldn't happened. Bloody freaks.

Seems to have many crimes related to her car lol getting towed away, fine for speeding and one time we saw her car was damaged like she drove into something

Anonymous said...

Lol that car has a curse

Don’t worry guys this is all just so that Emma can have a witty story to tell when she appears on a late night talk show to promote her newest project which means that she’ll be coming out of the shadows soon, this is a good omen lol

Don't you feel like if we get news - which isn't really news - from a random woman and not a famous actress like Emma?
It's like I feel more and more like I'm following the life of a neighbor and not someone who is supposed to have projects, movies. There is literally nothing relevant. Just something from Prada and that's it. And well, that we ran with the luck she has been seen a little more these last few months but they are mostly casual appearances too.

So much with this car, she should go back to prius

For only 13km/h? If this happened in my country, everyone would be in jail.

I'm not trying to be an insensitive person, because speeding is a dangerous act that can lead to serious consequences. But as a Texan going 8mph over the limit doesn't even go noticed 99% of the time... even in restricted areas. And the one percent that it does is punished with a small fine that can be paid off within the same day... I've never seen somebody's car get towed for going 8mph over the speed limit

Maybe it's the 'tism or maybe it's an American thing... but you're joking right? Because I've never heard of anybody getting their car towed for going 8mph over the limit... If anything they get a small fine but if the officer that pulls you over is in a good mood they will either pretend thet didn't see anything or let you off with a warning.

I’ve done 40 in a 30 before, really really easy to do especially when it’s quiet and there’s no traffic. In some places a 30 limit makes zero sense and I’m convinced the council leave it to get people fines so it’s just a money making racket.

Stupid , it's only 8mph over not like she was going 60mph

This might be a sign I've been living in the U.S. for too long...

Because before I read the article, I thought she would've at least been caught doing 15mph or more... Don't get me wrong, speeding is a very dangerous thing to do, it's just that the speed in which she exceeded the speed limit isn't worthy of having your car towed here... A fine yes, a court hearing for 8mph is a bit overboard, but to be towed is completely unheard of to me...

Anonymous said...

The Sun already picked the story up...

Anonymous said...

Not sure why she bother with court hearing if they got you on camera it's over not like a patrol officer pulled you over who could be wrong and possibly be disputed lol

Can somebody please tell me why the first thing that popped into my head was a "celebrities, they're just like us!" headline? No, but seriously... am I the only one who thinks a fine of max one thousand euros and getting towed is a bit excessive? Don't me wrong, there is a reason why speeding is illegal... But in my home state, the max fine for 8mph over the limit is max two hundred and seventy dollars.

I felt it couple years ago, but I don't mind it a bit. Celebrity or not, I like to know about Emma

Genuine question as an American…

But are traffic laws really that strict in England? Because if somebody was speeding 8mph it would go undetected 99% of the time in all five states I’ve lived in… And in none of those states would that get her car towed. If anything the max fine for going 8mph over the limit is generally $270 in all five states. So reading that the max fine she could receive was £1000 coupled with the possible jail time… was insane to read if I’m being honest.

“There is literally nothing [news] relevant” ok…and??? A lot of people have to stop acting so entitled to Emma, what she does is for HERSELF not for anyone else. Yes a lot of things she does today don’t seem important on the surface but they are probably really important to HER. And Has she not been in anything big since 2019…yes but that’s ok! She’s literally been working since she was a child let the girl have a seven year or even a decade long (which she would more then deserve) break from public life, let her enjoy her life and if you were really an Emma fan you would just be happy to know that she herself is happy and doing well

Eden need to keep emma in the basement to avoid causing more traffic infractions lol

I think some of you are reading the story wrong. Her car was towed last year because she parked in front of a driveway. This was a speeding infraction from a speed camera, she chose to fight the fine by opting for a court appearance.

in america there i slots of wilderness and huge open roads were no one care but this oxford small streets, residential areas with cameras that pick you up easier

Anonymous said...

Cameras can be wrong but also if it was road works the temporary speed limit might have been poorly marked, there’s a number of factors

Anonymous said...

People go 8mph over the limit in residential areas with small streets here too… In there defense they’re usually running late for something (school, work, appointments etc.,). Although people are careful not to do so in areas/streets kids are known to play in. Which is why I’m assuming some of the other Americans in the comments before mine said it going 8mph over the limit isn’t that noticeable here. If I’m being completely honest I personally don’t notice speeding until it over 15mph, and everybody is on the road either during school pickup and drop off times or during the lunchtime rush.

Maybe it’s because I’ve lived 7 houses down from an intersection where one street has the limit being 30 and the other is 40 for most of my life… But honestly you don’t really feel that much of or any difference while driving if I’m being honest. I’m also guilty of going 33-38ish on a 30 without realizing before…
