Emma Watson getting ready for the Lucas Museum Of Narrative Art Opening Night + interview [September 19, 2026]

Another Hollywood A-lister in attendance was the actor Emma Watson. The Harry Potter and Little Women star says she was honored to be a part of the museum’s unveiling, as “storytelling is one of humanity’s oldest art forms,” she said. “A museum devoted to it feels like a remarkable gift to Los Angeles and its visitors.”

Given the special feel of the night, the star naturally wanted to find an equally special red carpet look for the occasion—and one that also played into this idea of storytelling. To do so, she and stylist Jared Ellner closely collaborated on a striking handmade dress that was crafted, in part, from live flowers. (Flowers are her “favorite thing,” says Watson.) The duo wanted something “living and natural—not conventional embellishment—to be the central source of beauty in the look.”

Both Watson and Ellner worked together on the dress concept from early sketches to the final result—the vision being to use the frock “as a catalyst for a larger conversation, about what we value in society today,” says Watson. The aim was to pay homage to “Mother Nature, and draw attention to the natural resources and beauty we so often take for granted.”

The black, off-the-shoulder silhouette was made from recycled black velvet, sourced from downtown Los Angeles. It was then trimmed with a variety of different white florals. They worked with local florist Anthony Maslo (of The Boy Who Cried Flowers) to achieve this result: On the day of the event, he and his team hand-placed each flower onto the dress, including four different types of Phalaenopsis orchids, two types of Dendrobium orchids, and two lilies (Nerine and Gloriosa). For volume, Maslo also used baby’s breath and broom mixed with linoleum.

For Watson and Ellner, it was this slow process of putting the frock together that made it intentional and meaningful. “Because the flowers could not remain exactly as they were, they became a reminder to be fully present and appreciate beauty while it is happening,” says Watson.

The thoughtful touches didn’t end with just the dress, either. Watson’s bag and jewelry for the night were also made of hand-blown, reclaimed glass—“a material that can be melted down and made anew repeatedly without losing its quality,” noted Watson.

Hair stylist Daniel Moon and makeup artist Katie Mellinger, meanwhile, crafted a glamorous beauty look that complemented the look in a softer, subtler way. “I wanted the hair to feel whimsical and romantic—to match the energy of the dress, but also the ephemeral nature of actually making a garment in real time, as we were doing the hair all in the same room,” says Moon. “That kind of organic collaboration was so unique. As I was putting bobby pins in the hair, the florists were pinning the flowers into the dress, and it was such a surreal, cool moment to be working side by side with that team at the exact team.”

When Watson saw herself in the final look. her mouth “fell open.” “It felt unreal,” she said, adding it proved her hypothesis that, indeed, “fashion can, itself, be a form of storytelling.” The hand-crafted design was certainly one of the most unexpected—yet glamorous—of the night. But for the star, playing dress-up was just one of the memorable moments: She also loved “seeing Frida Kahlo, Snoopy, Banksy, and Darren Cullen’s golf-cart artwork under one roof.”

Once the night concluded, the living floral dress was not put to waste: All of the flowers were removed carefully from the frock and are now being pressed “as keepsakes.”

Is this her slowly returning to industry by putting toes in water or trying to stay relevant? What do you guys think?

The dress really is stunning. Shows off her figure really well, and the live flowers are a clever touch. She doesn't usually do a shaped bust like that, and it's very flattering.

The hair and makeup are a fail, and I will die on that hill. The makeup makes her look weary rather than fresh-faced, partly because the floppy, shapeless hair shades and frames her face wrong.

Look how much sweeter she looks in the "during" pic when she's getting her hair done. Moon could have sent her out with the pins still in, and it'd be better than what happened.

Emma's gorgeous. Objectively the loveliest woman at the whole party. (He said, again, objectively.) The dress is amazing. It just deserved better beauty work.

And she really doesn't look like she's gained any weight. People talking like that is, again, why Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman look terrifying now, and Anne Hathaway's forehead can't move.

Shame these pictures look shopped in that they are making her appear thinner so prefer the previous set easily.

So beautiful ! She has become even softer and more radiant.

“Trying to stay relevant” LOL. If she so much as sneezes she’s in the news.

How real is all this?

Nah! It seems like you guys don't know Emma's modus operandi.
She's been doing the same thing for several years now.
A couple of events a year, this must be this year's highlight. Photos, an article in Vogue, or an interview, and then she's off until next year.
At this point, it’s wishful thinking to hope that an appearance like this means she’s going to return to acting.
People thought the same thing when she showed up at the 2022 BAFTAs.
When she went to the Oscars parties in 2023.
When she attended Cannes and Venice in 2025.
When she went to the Dior party this year.
And now for attending this industry event.

Emma, one way or another, needs to stay in the spotlight every so often in case she ever decides to return to acting.

Not related to Emma, but general HP discussion that Matt isn’t wearing his wedding ring at recent events. Seems a bad sign.

Her waist is unbelievably narrow, love her figure.

She looks uncomfortable and uneasy before camera, almost as if she's afraid of spotlight.

Giving the benefit of the doubt here… maybe he’s getting it resized or cleaned?

I was going to say the same about her hair!
Her hair is so pretty and they should have left it down and full.
I thought her “during” hair looked better too!
I liked the bottom of it. Felt like it almost had a classic Hollywood feel to it.
I do love that the dress has real flowers on it!
That made it stand out even more in a room full of other dresses.
I’m happy she attended this event.

Who is Matt?!

Matthew Lewis. He played Neville in Harry Potter.

I just said she generally looks her age, but that pic during her hairstyling could have been taking during Deathly Hallows. It's the lightning and angle, but she really did look amazing.

Having looked through the photos from the event, I'm standing by my statement. Nobody there looked better than Emma (Doja Cat comes closest), or did anything as interesting. Even the bad hair was a bolder swing than anyone else took. Well, Kim Kardashian went to the trouble of looking like a space alien, but she's been working hard at that for years.

Oh ok. Don't see how this is relevant but anyhow.

Have a look at her latest post on Substrack :)

Lol Emma doesn’t know how to smile in front of the camera I’ve noticed when she does it usually looks like she is taking an X-ray photo of her teeth. I love these pictures are between a smirk and a smile.
