Emma Watson talks about her support for Good On You

[Version française]

Good On You will be "rating the clothes she wears on the red carpet and beyond, so she can be confident her outfits meet the highest standards of ethics and sustainability."

  • Emma's message:

"Fashion helps shape our identities. What we wear signifies who we are and what we stand for. I support Good On You because I need to know my clothes do not harm our precious planet or its people.

On the red carpet we’re often asked not what we are wearing but ‘who’. It’s as if the ideas behind the clothes – the label, the designer, the collection – have more meaning than the garment itself. But there’s something missing.

There’s a bigger story to be told about the conditions in which our clothes are made, the resources that have been used and the impact they’ve had on communities.

Good On You is my benchmark for sustainable fashion. This means that when I’m given a platform to speak about my choice of outfit, I will have a meaningful story to tell. And it’s powerful.

But I am just one person. In truth, we can all play a part in driving fashion to be more sustainable and ethical. By choosing to wear clothes from labels that embrace transparent, creative and innovative production methods; and by re-wearing, recycling, swapping and thrifting.

Together we are building a bigger, better movement every day.

Fashion is a creative force. It has the power to persuade, to influence, and transform. When fashion truly embraces transparency and sustainability, other spheres will follow. We’re on a journey towards a more sustainable future.

This is just the beginning."

🛍 It's a minefield out there in the fashion world !! Fair trade, organic, sustainable, ethical, vegan, carbon neutral, artisanal, fast fashion, slow fashion. What does it all mean?! 🤷🏼‍♀️ Does it matter? What matters most? How do I choose? What is green washing? Which information or recommendations do I trust? 🥳 I was SO happy (and relieved!) to find the @goodonyou_app team because their app made the information easy and accessible for me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ They take into account information from over 50 certification schemes, standard systems and NGO rating projects. Then they break down and rate brands based on their impact on 🧵 labour, 🌳 the environment and 🐑 animals, rating them either 'Great', 'Good', 'It's a Start', 'Not Good Enough' and 'We Avoid'. They also suggest ethical alternatives to anything you might be looking for. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Their articles are also brilliant, up to date and on the button. You can also favourite any brands you want to remember. 🤳🏼👩🏼‍💻 Check them out 😎

They can't really rate her clothes if she never shows herself in public. (I wish I was kidding)

Look at it this way, Anon: Emma's recent uptick in online activity, picture-posting, etc, and comments like this, just might show she's planning to do more with her career that will put her more in the public eye.

That was my thinking when she did the Vogue shoot and the appearances at the Globes and Oscars at beginning of last year, but then she went missing in action again for half a year until she signed onto Little Women. I'm kinda done reading too much into her social media activity and the like and hoping for stuff to happen. If something does, great. If not, well, it's been mostly that way for over two years now und I'm used to it.

Who can afford fashion? 0.0000000001% of the population on Earth? Transparency and sustainability, great idea but start with the Banks, money, Greed! The most important thing on this planet today is: Somehow legitimately to curb and control the Greed! The Earth’s immediate future depends on it! If banks raise the APR only 1% worldwide people would have more money to feed themselves better and regularly, so would rise the need to dress better!!! Only 1% APR up would create a bigger impact than the global warming they’re talking all the time!!!

I wonder how she fills her days, really—if she's not acting, producing, etc I reckon things would get a little boring...

I think she was at the Globes and Oscars to support Time's Up. Sometimes it looks like she treats acting as a side career path.
