I don't understand how student life works in Oxford so I don't if it's even possible to finish your master's early. She's supposed to finish it this year.

I don't think they know what a PhD is. It's not like a degree, you don't pick a subject and do coursework and exams. You're effectively working for the university unpaid, doing research on subjects *they* want to pursue. There are no creative writing PhDs.

You can’t get a PhD’s for literature at Oxford though , you get a DPhil which is equivalent to a PhD just with a different name. It’s the degree that is given to those with any relation to literature, which creative writing falls under. I also doubt she would randomly tell/show people she goes to a couple of classes with that she has a townhouse… especially with her stalker still out there. Anyways whether or not her Kieran are together is none of my business. But it is cute to imagine them studying together at a cafe with a treat or a drink on the side.

Oxford's research fields for D.Phil English courses are all in historical literature. That doesn't really seem like something that would be much value to her as a writer. A doctorate isn't just a fancy degree, you have to present original research that challenges an existing position in the field, which means you have to be very knowledgeable about it.

All jokes aside we don’t actually know anything about Kieran, for all we know he might not even be from the country he got his bachelors in. That being said as long as Emma is happy (her relationship status is irrelevant in this case) that’s all that really matters. Also if any of the Daily Fail people are reading this… people who are perusing a literature adjacent degree after their masters get DPhil’s not PhD’s from Oxford. Similar concepts but different names….
