She’s become a teacher

That’s not what it says. It says she’s teaching. She’d need to tutor classes for her DPhil if she’s doing one.
She could be doing summer classes. She also did it informally during her fellowship at LMH. She is likely picking up the occasional class she’s not “become a teacher”…

Hey eden, Please check insta dms there’s a video of Emma at the event - Ricky

I pick up subjects at my local school alongside my job. I teach but that doesn’t mean I’ve changed careers. I think you’re hyper focusing.
She’ll need to do it to some extent she if she is indeed going for full time or part time PHD or equivalent. Or she could just be giving back.

“She’s become a teacher”
Think you need to redo reading comprehension exams if that’s what you got.

It’s a super interesting list of speakers! Wish I was there.

Does that make matthew mcconaughey only a teacher as well to you?? You can teach classes and do other things right. No shade on teachers.

Anonymous said...

She’ll need to tutor if she intends to get a DPhil at some point.

Anonymous said...

FYI - They also call her an actor

Anonymous said...

It's more like being a guest lecturer. Kieran is/was a teacher at Oxford too but only gave a handful of classes.

Reposting my comment from the other thread here.
She’s speaking at brilliant minds on Stockholm. They have a new very short profile. Still calling her an actor, in the film industry etc and also saying she’s finished her masters and begun some teaching (would need to do that if she does want a DPhil).

Anonymous said...

Congrats to her on finishing her masters!

Anonymous said...

Yeah she’s likely just picking up the occasional session on some summer courses that interest her.

I’m the original comment I wasn’t diminishing teachers or implying that she was no longer anything else. Didn’t expect to be attacked for no reason jees

Anonymous said...

She’s probably going for the DPhil if she’s doing some guest lecturing. Good for her. I just kinda hope she does it part-time or pivots to that at some point and gives us some public stuff as well. Whatever that might be. She’s also clearly intent on keeping her public profile. She’s doing that for a reason. She could easily be totally off radar if she wanted to be.

It was a weird comment to take from the profile though. So I’m with the others to be honest.

I hope we get to see some of the talk she gives. That would be super interesting

Anonymous said...

It really is. Huge mix of people

Ricky is correct. There is a short vid of her attending what looks like a luncheon at Brilliant Minds in Stockholm. I downloaded it. The date was 12 June.

Anonymous said...

Lupita N’yongo is speaking as well

Anonymous said...

Yeah it’s all over IG she’s sat beside Gisele Pelicot who is also speaking

Eden said...

I added the video.

Very cool that she’s picking up classes. And great to see that she got her masters. And to see her at a big event.

Anonymous said...

Would be amazing to chat to Gisele. Such an inspirational woman

Anonymous said...

She’d either probably be speaking today or tomorrow, not just sometime this month, as Brilliant Minds always runs for two days

Anonymous said...

Check again it didn’t send for some reason - Ricky

Anonymous said...

Yeah it’s 11-13 June

I am proud of her.
She has accomplished a lot!
Academically, activist wise, travel, and entertainment wise.
She’s truly beautiful inside and out.

I hope we get her whole speech. I think she’s got a lovely voice. Easy to listen to.

What I learned is that she completed her master's degree last year and is already studying for a DPhil. She occasionally teaches part-time courses, which is very common among DPhil students. She invited students to her home last Christmas.

The dates she was in Venice also align with Venice climate week. That’s why Ryan Mason was there and also likely a couple of years ago why Ryan Kohn was there. Emma is a green investor and there were numerous sessions around that. Friends might just have joined her to spend time with her outside of it.

Hat sie schon gesprochen?
Oder kommt sie nicht mehr dran?

Some fan account has found two videos of her speaking

So now we have confirmation that Emma has completed her Master's degree, right? I just checked www.brilliantminds.co, and the speaker profile only says: "Emma Watson is an English actress, activist, and public speaker known for her work in film and advocacy. Beyond acting, she has been a prominent advocate for gender equality and women’s rights. She served as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador and helped launch the HeForShe campaign. Watson is also recognized for promoting sustainable fashion and using her platform to support social and environmental causes."

The sentence "She recently completed her Master’s degree at Oxford and also began teaching." has been omitted. It confused me

They’ve put a slightly different site profile to the announcement profile for lots of people. I’d imagine it’s simply so they are different I wouldn’t read into it.

She has completed her Masters. I'm guessing the 'began teaching' is misleading since she's more likely just guest lecturing rather than being faculty.

I checked Lady Margaret Hall's website in the Prominent Alumni section of Arts and Entertainment, but I couldn't find her name. (According to the announcement in 2023, Emma was enrolled in an MA in Creative Writing at Lady Margaret Hall.) However, she is listed as an Associate Fellow, that she worked with several years ago. Given that the college included her name and profile in the Associate Fellow section, I think it's unlikely they wouldn't include her in the Prominent Alumni section if she graduated from there. Or perhaps she graduated from another college, like New College? A picture of her coxing with the New College team surfaced in June 2025; could she have graduated from there?

I think we can firmly take it that she had graduated regardless of college. They may not put anything up if she is still pursuing her DPhil with them for privacy reasons.

Graduating with a Master's degree from Oxford is a huge achievement. I don't think she or her team wouldn't announce it if she had actually completed her Master's. If we consider it a matter of privacy, I think it's similar to the announcement about starting her Master's program and attending the matriculation ceremony when she began, and from January until now, there are hardly any pictures of her in Oxford, but there are many pictures of her in Mexico, LA, Japan, and Italy. It seems she travels constantly. It contradicts the information that says she started teaching. However, this is just my opinion. We'll have to wait and see.

She didn’t formally announce the masters, she mentioned it briefly in a Renais interview. She hasn’t made a big deal of it at any point really, she didn’t announce matriculation she just got photographed there by other attendees. I’d fully expect a pretty subtle “I’m done” like this and absolutely not from the college or any big PR thing. Brilliant minds wouldn’t have invented the finishing masters or teaching points and to me would not have put it in the speaker announcement unless it was checked, this is a professional event and Emma doesn’t have a large team.
I also dont think there’s any contradiction in the teaching part as she’d be a guest lecturer and she could easily have picked up classes last term not this one. She’s not changed career is doing whole years of teaching, she’ll be picking up classes. Also whilst she’s been away a lot recently we’re generally relying on tourists for photos or her going to university events in places like Oxford and London, there aren’t pictures when she’s mostly around where she lives in either, they aren’t tourist areas and most locals, would be pretty used to her. I’m not saying it never happens but we don’t tend to get many photos.

Anonymous said...

Yeah started teaching doesn’t mean she literally started in the last few weeks, or even last few months. She could have done it on and off since Sept or even last Summer. Given she’s speaking about the masters in the clip we saw, they would have confirmed its status with her. I’d be very surprised if they didn’t get that it’s done directly from Emma.

Anonymous said...

Around the time she started her studies, I think the word "announcement" could be used, because the January 2024 of British Vogue, with her on the cover, said, "Watson is now at Oxford, enrolled in a creative writing MA program." And yes, there are also pictures of her at the matriculation ceremony, whether those are photos taken by attendees or not. I think if she's graduated ,we'll probably see pictures of her attending her graduation ceremony this year.

Anonymous said...

Oxford holds very frequent graduation ceremonies (every couple of weeks I think), so she might have deliberately chosen to graduate when almost no-one else was.

Anonymous said...

Again she happened to mention it in an interview. She’d have to be doing an interview to mention it again, I don’t she’ll do anything separate to that. And the point the person was making was that fellow attendees took photos of the matriculation so Emma and her team did not do that, and if given the choice she likely wouldn’t have wanted any photos anywhere.
I don’t know why you seem skeptical that she’s finished it. She’s clearly finished it.
Another point is that you don’t have to go to the graduation ceremony, it’s purely ceremonial and for a part-time masters it wouldn’t be uncommon not to go. The uni will just hold it for collection or post it to you, People tend to go more for their degrees. For my masters I went but more because my parents wanted to. My first uni graduation was a much bigger deal.

It’s a pity we don’t have the brilliant minds interview. It’d be interesting regardless but given that she spoke about her masters from the clips we have, I’d imagine she probably also confirmed it was done during the talk.

Not about Emma but kind of linked: Cate Blanchett has been announced as a new visiting professor next year at Oxford (St Catherine’s College) to teach contemporary theatre
