Maybe to position herself? It's clear that she's still relevant even though she's been out of the public eye for a long time, and if she ever returns to the spotlight (and depending on how she does so), the boom will be huge. If she's still the face of Prada by then, the brand would gain a lot of attention.
You have your answer, successful campaigns. What else does a brand need besides strong sales? Also, Emma doesn’t have to be “in the public eye” in the way you mean it.
In other news Emma is number 16 of the highest grossing actors of all time (as of 2025). She’s the only one who doesn’t have ties to Marvel, Avatar or the Fast and Furious franchise… in the top 20
