Chris Columbus : We narrowed down each role to about four or five kids that we screentested. So, in terms of Emma Watson, she was phenomenal. The camera loved her, she had Hermione's sense of humour, she was sharp as a whip for an 11-year-old girl.
Emma : We had a couple of screentests where I had to learn lines. No, I don't think they were hard. No, they were quite enjoyable actually.
Chris : Seeing Emma Watson's screentests, we were in agreement that Emma was Hermione.
