50. Doing Her Homework
When director Alfonso Cuarón was brought in to rejuvenate the arguably flagging franchise for The Prisoner Of Azkaban, he decided the best way to get to know his young stars was by setting them an essay where they could share their feelings about their characters.
The results proved that these three roles could not have been better cast, as Dan Radcliffe handed in a short draft, Rupert Grint forgot completely and the gloriously nerdy Emma Watson presented Cuarón with a brief sixteen page masterpiece.
Where does Watson end and Hermione begin?!
49. Twitter Threats
In case you were wondering whether being an international celebrity made you immune from little vices like cinema rage, you'd be wrong.
Voicing an anger that any regular movie-goer has experienced first-hand, Watson recently tweeted about attending a noisy screening that nearly sent her over the edge: "People chatting loudly in the cinema I am in. If you don't stop talking very soon I will start pelting you with Maltesers."
We hope she did it - can you imagine getting ticked off by Hermione Granger?
48. Hermione's Final Act
Hermione's always been ahead of her peers when it comes to figuring stuff out, but this moment from the big finale of The Deathly Hallows: Part Two showed that her quick brains aren't always such a good thing.
Whilst Ron (Rupert Grint) stands there trying to work out what Harry (Daniel Radcliffe)'s rambling means, Hermione immediately twigs that Harry's about to give himself up to Voldemort. She doesn't try to dissuade him, just embraces him with a heart-rending "I'll go with you".
47. The Tale of Despereaux (2008)
Watson took on her first voice role for this family-friendly story of big-eared mouse Despereaux (Matthew Broderick) who refuses to be scared of anything, lending her dulcet cut glass tones to Princess Pea, the human royal who befriends the brave little mouse.
She also took part in some sickeningly cute PR for the movie, introducing her "charming friend" Despereaux to audiences and landing a big ole smooch on his little schnoz.
46. The Trailblazer
Last year, Emma was given the well-deserved title of Trailblazer at The MTV Movie Awards, presented by her My Week With Marilyn costar Eddie Redmayne whose speech reminded everyone that Watson had been starring in big movies for over ten years (which immediately made everyone watching feel outrageously old).
Her acceptance speech was just as delightful as anticipated as she self-deprecatingly mocked her hair back in the early Potter films, and her nervous reaction to Jonah Hill's announcement that he would be joining her as the leads in Fifty Shades Of Grey was truly priceless.
45. A Sensible Outlook
The majority of child stars go off the rails after feeling immense pressure to be a role model. So why hasn't Ms. Watson gone the same way?
She reckons it's all because she's simply too serious to get caught up in the world of celebrity, telling W Magazine: "I was always a very serious child. I remember being 13 and girls in my class saying, “So-and-so is going to kiss so-and-so on the school fields.” I said, “That’s stupid. They’re too young for it to matter - he doesn’t love her, and that’s just a waste of time.” It’s amazing that I had any friends!"
44. A New Challenge
As Ila, the wife of Noah (Russell Crowe)'s son Shem (fellow Burberry model Douglas Booth), Watson faced an acting challenge unlike any she'd had before - onscreen childbirth.
Having spent years playing younger than her age, it must have been quite a leap from schoolgirl to young mother, and Watson spoke of the intimidating experience on the movie's red carpet.
"It was crazy. I had to do a lot of research and it was pretty intimidating to have to do that on camera. I have a whole new respect for women and giving birth and motherhood."
43. Emma Watson: Rock Star
They say you can't be a bonafide movie star unless you've been the leading lady in an music video (see Robert Downey Jr., Christopher Walken, Angelina Jolie and many, many more) and in 2010 Watson starred opposite new beau George Craig in indie band One Night Only's video Say You Don't Want It.
There aren't many blokes who could persuade the gorgeous Emma Watson to play a human incarnation of a dog!
42. NickiMooreOfficial
Talk about going method.
To help prepare for her role as the vacuous Nicki in Coppola's The Bling Ring, Watson created a blog on Tumblr for her character, complete with trashy zebra print background and requisite pointless use of "namaste".
Watson also shared the secrets behind her dead-on Hollywood girl drawl, saying that she watched a lot of The Hills, Keeping Up With The Kardashians and hours and hours of Paris Hilton footage.
41. England Or America?
Having spent her teenage years flitting between England and America, it's fair to say that Ms. Watson must have dated across the pond.
She shared her thoughts on the differences between the two during a visit to The Ellen Show in 2012, saying that although we Brits are very well-mannered and have excellent dress sense (*dusts lapels*), we're lacking when it comes to confidence.
She recalls an American beau immediately saying "I like you, let's go on a date" to her upon her arrival in the States, and being gobsmacked at his forwardness.
Maybe we should take dating tips from the Yanks after all?!
40. Working With Aronofsky
Watson's latest venture is a role in Darren Aronofsky's biblical epic Noah, yet another unexpected choice from the young actress. The film itself looks suitable dark, and before it's even been released here in the UK, Emma has found herself defending her director from critics who are calling the movie blasphemous.
Watson sensibly points out that "If we had gone with exactly the original story, Noah doesn’t say anything until he steps off the ark. You would have been watching a silent film". That definitely doesn't sound as fun as seeing Russell Crowe go all Old Testament Maximus Decimus Meridius.
39. "I did NOT wake up like this!"
She may be universally acknowledged as one of Britain's most beautiful people, but Watson's keen to remind people that she has a lot of help when it comes to polished red carpet appearances.
With a cheeky nod to Queen Of All Beautiful Things Beyoncé's new track Flawless, Emma both acknowledged that she was nailing this whole movie star thing, whilst still keeping it humble. Twitpic perfection.
38. The Tale Of The Three Brothers
The eerie animation seen in the first Deathly Hallows movie was one of the visual high points of the entire Potter series, as the crew went completely off-piste and brought in designer Ben Hibon alongside Framestore to help create a truly unforgettable sequence.
Watson leant her impeccable RP English to the scene, narrating with a calm and stillness that only added to the atmosphere of the piece.
37. Dream Collaborations
Proving that's she's not interested in making a quick buck (after eight Harry Potter films, who would be?), Watson confessed that she chooses her projects based on the director involved, telling online magazine Rookie how she's "a real director chaser. I really want to work with Danny Boyle or Ang Lee, I’d love to work with Lynne Ramsay, I’d love to work with Tom Hooper, David Fincher…"
We can't wait to see what she picks next.
36. Green Warrior
She may have designers throwing their best wares at her at every opportunity, but Emma Watson cares about more than looks, y'all. She's got a fashion conscience.
In early 2010, Emma created a fashion line for ethical clothing brand People Tree, telling critics that she has absolutely no desire to try out designing, but instead really cares about fair-trade and ethical fashion.
As if that wasn't enough, she also stripped down to her birthday suit to promote Earth Day and going green for photographer James Houston's book Natural Beauty.
35. Woman Of The Year
At the tender age of only twenty-three, Emma Watson received manly mag GQ's Award for Woman Of The Year, a title previously held by Gemma Arteton, Lily Allen and Lana Del Ray, to name a few, and the publication praised her post-Potter career, saying that "even the most optimistic couldn't have predicted Watson's current streak."
The accolade did nothing to change her ever-humble attitude, something she credits to her best friend who every single time she trips, stumbles or speaks out of turn, likes to incredulously remind her "well, you are the Woman Of The Year".
34. A Sad Goodbye
The premiere of The Deathly Hallows: Part Two was always going to be an emotional affair, as cast, crew and Potter lovers came together to say goodbye to this spectacular series.
Emma had the not-so-easy task of speaking to her peers and fans and watching her try to keep it all together sends us reaching for the Kleenex every time. Her comforting words to Daniel Radcliffe are a real high point: "Dan, you didn't get lucky. You were, and are, the perfect Harry Potter".
33. Charming Jimmy Fallon
Proving once again that she's easily the most charismatic talk show guest ever to exist, Watson gave one of the most effortlessly sweet interviews with then Late Night host Jimmy Fallon as she promoted The Perks Of Being A Wallflower back in early 2013.
After sharing her favourite sandwich spots in Pittsburgh - they put the fries actually IN the sandwich - Emma volunteered to teach Jimmy a few of her best dance moves, and the duo paid homage to Gene Kelly, did their best Danny and Sandy from Grease, and finished off with a klutzy yet completely adorable version of the Dirty Dancing lift.
32. Love Rivalry
J. K. Rowling broke the hearts of, well, pretty much everyone when she confessed that the Hermione / Ron relationship that fans so adored was only written "as a form of wish fulfilment".
Rowling and Watson had a conversation about the series as part of an interview for Wonderland magazine, and Emma proved her journalistic talents when she cajoled Rowling into sharing her thoughts on the topic: "In some ways Hermione and Harry are a better fit". Cue mass hysteria.
31. Hats Off
After five years of studying, Watson is now only two short months away from receiving her degree from Brown. Normal students may bag their credits in four years, but we reckon Emma was allowed a couple of semesters off here and there to, y'know, shoot some movies and receive some awards.
Her academic achievements definitely aren't going unnoticed however, as last week talk show host Ellen DeGeneres presented Watson with a totally rad graduation present - an electric blue Ellen themed mortar board.
30. My Week With Marilyn (2011)
Watson may have only had the smallest of small parts in Simon Curtis' charming drama about an aspiring film-maker and screen siren Marilyn Monroe, but she made damn well sure that no one forgot about her.
Playing wardrobe assistant Lucy, the girl who Colin (Eddie Redmayne) ditches for the blonde bombshell herself, Emma was cheeky, flirtatious and completely believable as the spurned love interest. Don't worry, love, we think he made a huge mistake too.
29. Lancôme
After finishing her mahoosive campaign for Burberry, Watson was announced as the new face of French cosmetics brand Lancôme.
The company credited her "charm, romanticism and incredible modernity", as well as dropping in the fact that as she was born in Paris, she's basically a French icon. We think it might have something to do with being drop dead gorgeous, but sure, let's go with "incredibly modernity".
28. No Kissing Contract
During an interview just after the release of Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, Watson was quizzed about the possibility of having to face any onscreen snogs with either of her male co-stars.
Don't forget that this was long before the release of the final book, and sweet, naive Emma had absolutely no clue what was in store for her character, which almost makes her insistence even more hilarious: "Oh my God, no, no chance, no chance. That's not in my contract!" Next time you should read the small print, Watson.
27. Ballet Shoes (2007)
This BBC television movie was Watson's first venture outside of Potter, and naturally, all eyes were on her to see how she performed without her cloak and wand.
Based on Noel Streatfeild's classic 1936 novel of the same name, Watson played Pauline, the eldest of the three adopted Fossil children and an aspiring actress. Talk about meta.
She needed have worried about the reception, as the reviews were glowing: "The young star fits right in as the hopeful actress, giving the camera a tart offering of ego and combustible English pride."
26. J-Emma
Little did Emma Watson and Joseph Gordon Levitt know that when they stepped out on to the stage of the 86th Oscars they would inspire a whole new wave of adoration and a new dream Hollywood couple.
Looking every inch the movie star, Watson glided across that stage like a pro, and when JGL did his chivalrous little bow to her, we all decided that they should get married, have babies and be generally wonderful together forever.
Extra kudos goes to the pair for giving us our favourite Oscars selfie of the night. Forget Ellen's 3.4 million retweets.
25. FHM Accolade
Forget Academy Awards - the holy grail for any serious actress has to be a spot on men's magazine FHM's 100 Sexiest Women list. Are we right, ladies?
Lucky old Emma has appeared on the list for six years running - surely some kind of slightly pervy record. We can't help feeling that six years of celebrating Emma's sexy factor would go back long before she turned eighteen, but let's not focus on that too closely.
24. Burberry Contract
Once the Potter hullabaloo had started to die down, fashion houses across the globe were fighting it out to see who could grab the attention of this up-and-coming sartorial star, and it was British big-dogs Burberry who eventually landed the contract.
It was the perfect choice for Watson, as Burberry's classic (and importantly, classy) style matched perfectly with her own, and she was plastered on billboards worldwide. They even let her younger brother Alex join in for a few shoots, proving that even as an international model, Emma still likes to keep it in the family.
23. Snip Snip
Keen to throw off the Hermione tag that was sure to follow her around for the rest of her career, Emma Watson shocked everyone when she lopped off her trademark long locks for a Mia Farrow inspired pixie crop.
Seriously, who could ever have predicted the level of controversy over one, simple haircut - Watson was bombarded by journalists asking her if the new look was her way of coming out. Really?!
22. Acting 101
Talk about a reality check. You're part of the biggest movie franchise ever, you're on the front cover of every magazine, you're the face of Burberry, and you still have to audition for the school play?
Nevertheless, there were no diva cries of "don't you know who I am?!" here, as Watson said that "it was so nice to do something that was a little bit less pressurized than Harry Potter" as she prepared to take part in the college production of Chekhov's Three Sisters.
21. Working With Helena Bonham Carter
Watson batted off criticism from those who felt her performance as Hermione was sometimes stilted with one brutal scene. Bellatrix Lestrange (an impeccably cast Helena Bonham Carter) is a loose canon at the best of times, and her horribly intimate torture of Hermione was excruciating to watch, as Watson brought out all her big acting guns and lay on the ground, weeping in despair.
Watson spoke of her discomfort when filming the scene, saying that "It was very weirdly affecting to do that scene. It was quite horrible. I think even Helena said to me afterwards, she was like, 'I really didn’t enjoy doing that. I really didn't.' She usually gets very into that kind of evil stuff, but I think she felt quite uncomfortable.
20. Tom Felton: Heartbreaker
Being cast as the only girl in a trio leads to a hellalotta rumours, as Watson soon discovered. After spending years batting off questions about whether she liked specs or gingers, it was Jonathan Ross that finally got the world an answer. Was it Rupert or Dan?
Actually, it was neither. Tom Felton, aka Draco Malfoy, had been the object of Emma's affection for years, and apparently consistently kept her firmly in the friend zone, telling press that he saw her as his little sister.
Top tip for anyone fancying their chances: Tom won Emma's admiration thanks to his rebellious attitude, as she told Ross: “We love a bad guy, he was a few years older and he had a skateboard - and that just did it really.”
19. Fifty Shades Of Nay
Within minutes of the official announcement of an impending Fifty Shades Of Grey movie, rumours were flying as to which young actress would be landing the role of the sexually submissive (and completely nauseating) Anastasia Steele.
With her doe eyes, natural look and squeaky clean reputation, Watson's name was immediately sent to the top of the list.
However, it didn't take long for her to put all gossip to bed (no pun intended), with a well-timed tweet loaded with exactly the right amount of snark: "Who here actually thinks I would do 50 Shades of Grey as a movie? Like really. For real. In real life".
18. Hermione 4 Harry 4 Eva
Poor Ron. His attempts to destroy the locket horcrux brought him face-to-face with his worst fears, as he saw a giant smoke depiction of BFF Harry and long-time crush Hermione locking lips.
It might have only been magic, but Watson and Radcliffe had to go through with the smooch for real, something that Emma likened to kissing your brother. That being sad, Dan Radcliffe famously stated that she kisses "like an animal", so we're guessing there were some decidedly un-brotherly thoughts going through his head.
17. Hermione 4 Ron Instead
This was the one Potterheads everywhere had been waiting for. After seven books and as many movies, Ron finally got his girl and it wasn't half passionate. Mid the battle of the century at Hogwarts, Herms and Ron found themselves momentarily elated after destroying another horcrux, and threw caution to the wind for one heck of a kiss.
It might have looked loved-up, but Watson wasn't feeling the romance on-set, telling journalists "Yeah, it was horrible! I mean really horrible. I felt incredibly awkward." Chin up, Rupert.
16. The Yule Ball
Really, Urge Overkill's Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon should have been playing during this moment.
Thanks to one scene (and one very gorgeous pink dress) in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, Harry and Ron joined the audience in disbelief as they all noticed that Hermione, and indeed fourteen-year-old Emma Watson, wasn't a little kid anymore. You could practically hear the fashion designers scrabbling to sign her right then and there.
15. Charms Lessons
She may have only been little, but Ms. Granger is still the undisputed queen of shady side-eye, and Emma Watson gave us serious twelve-year-old sass as the she schooled poor, hapless Ron in magical incantation pronunciation.
Altogether now: "It's Leviosa, not Leviosaaah". Even the swottiest kids at our schools didn't know how to make a feather fly.
14. Valley Girl, Duh
After what must have seemed like years playing beloved literary characters, Watson finally got a chance to let her hair down and have some fun with the horribly captivating Nicki Moore, based on real-life jailbird Alexis Neiers.
As a member of the Bling Ring gang, famed for targeting the Hollywood homes of celebrities like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Orlando Bloom, Watson stole every single scene from her co-stars, slaying with lines like "this situation was a huge learning lesson for me…I wanna lead a country one day, for all I know".
13. Beauty And The Beast
After adding work with big names like Alfonso Cuarón, Darren Aronofsky and Sofia Coppola to her CV, Watson is not set to team up with the incomparable Guillermo del Toro for a new adaption of fairytale Beauty And The Beast.
We can't imagine this will be anything close to the 1991 Disney version, with its charming talking crockery and catchy songs - with the master of dark fantasy at the helm, we're guessing it'll be focusing much more on Watson's character's kidnap and incarceration, along with a smattering of creepy beasties. No word yet as to who'll be starring alongside her.
12. Emma Heads To College
Proving that she has talent, beauty and brains too (some people get all the luck), back in 2009 Watson decided to take a short break from acting and accepted a covetable spot at Brown University in Providence, one of America's best Ivy League universities.
Not only that, but she popped back to England for her year abroad as student of, yep, you guessed it, Oxford. The lines between Watson and Granger remain ever blurry. Someone get that girl a time-turner.
11. "Still Got It"
Whilst attending a fundraiser for J. K. Rowling at Watford's Leavesden Studios last November, Emma ran into a familiar figure at The Warner Bros. Studio Tour - a waxwork likeness of herself.
She simply couldn't resist a double Granger photo, and gave us a rather stirling impression of the suitably sinister looking figure, complete with drink in hand. If only Hermione could see her now.
10. Boozy Watson
Appearing on The Late Show With David Letterman back in 2011, Watson was faced with a Paxman style interrogation about her drinking habits from the host, being repeatedly asked if she used "controlled substances".
Much to the surprise of the American audience who, as she hadn't gone down the DUI/meth/courtcase path of peers like Amanda Bynes and Lindsay Lohan, had assumed her to be nothing less than nun-like, Emma proudly proclaimed "I have been drunk!" before taking a well-deserved bow.
9. Granger Vs. Malfoy
Once upon a time, long before he became tangled up in the evil acts of Lord Voldemort and his Death Eater cronies (seriously, how does anyone think these are just stories for kids?!), Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) was nothing more than your quintessential school bully.
No one ever could have predicted that it would be eternal good girl Hermione who gave the snivelling Malfoy a swift sock to the face, but boy-oh-boy was it satisfying to watch. Mudblood is not a nice word, Draco.
8. The Bling Ring Trailer (2013)
From the moment the trailer for Sofia Coppala's greed-obsessed black comedy The Bling Ring landed, there was only one moment anyone was talking about. That dance scene. Don't even try and pretend you don't know what we're talking about.
As Watson grinded and oh-so-suggestively licked her lips for the camera, we all simultaneously agreed that she'd done it. She certainly wasn't "just Hermione Granger" anymore.
7. Emma's Favourite Line
"I'm going to bed before either of you come up with another clever idea to get us killed - or worse, expelled."
That's right, Ms. Watson voted this as her most loved line. To the Potter novice it might sound like nothing more than a swotty joke from Harry Potter And The Philospher's Stone, but for the fandom this was the ultimate Hermione test.
Did little Emma Watson have the required level of pomp and snootiness to successfully portray this beloved character for seven more movies? Give the girl an A, she passed with flying colours. seven more movies? Give the girl an A, she passed with flying colours.
6. Childhood Ruined
Emma suffered a very public tragedy during her promotional interviews for The Bling Ring, and we can blame Empire Magazine for making our girl so sad.
After quizzing Watson as to why she followed @OfficialSanta on Twitter, the interviewer nervously pointed out that it might not be the actual Santa due to him being *SPOILER ALERT* totally not real.
Emma's reaction was pure genius, as her smiling face dropped, and she gave the journalist her best deadpan "I'm sorry, can we stop the interview?". Someone's getting coal in their stocking this year.
5. Oscars Pizza Party
A girl after our own hearts. Having survived presenting at the Oscars, Watson headed to her hotel room to change before the after-party of all after-parties, but found herself suddenly overcome with fatigue.
"I got back to my hotel room to change, took the dress off, got into someone's coat, and ended up just falling asleep in the coat," she told reporters. Did she down a coffee, fix her hair and head off to dance with Brad Pitt? No. She ordered pizza and went to bed. Good girl.
4. The Memory Wipe
The Deathly Hallows: Part One gave us one of the most poignantly painful scenes from the entire series, as Hermione demonstrates the lengths she's willing to go to to protect her family from Voldemort and the impending wizarding way.
With a quavering "Obliviate", she wipes her entire existence from her parents' minds, and watching Emma's face slowly fade from all the smiling family photos never doesn't bring a tear to our eyes. Pass the tissues.
3. Twitter Friends
Two of Hollywood's most adorkable ladies became bosom buddies with the help of one perfect Tw-interaction.
From Emma's cryptic "Cups" to Anna's typically charming response (and could that Friends reference BE any more perfect?), the only way this could have been improved on would be if they'd invited Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence to the party and J-Law had tripped up on the way there.
2. The Tunnel Song
Stephen Chbosky's coming-of-age com-dram The Perks Of Being A Wallflower saw Watson heading even further away from her squaky cleanHarry Potter image, as she took on the role of leading lady (and free-spirited cool girl) Sam.
Based on the beloved cult book of the same name, the scene that really made an impact saw Sam standing up in the back of a pick-up truck (think the car version of Jack's "I'm on top of the world!" in Titanic) whilst Bowie's classic Heroes blasts out of the stereo.
1. "Hermione just stole all of our shit"
Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's 2013 apocalyptic gross-fest This Is The End saw Watson joining the ranks of celebs stepping up to play incredibly dickish versions of themselves - we're looking at you, Michael Cera.
However, our girl proved herself to be completely non-dickish (it's a word) as she connected with her inner badass, cursed like a sailor and kicked the proverbial shit out of the group of boys.
