Emma Watson talks about wanting to quit Harry Potter and falling in love with Tom Felton

During her interview with Rupert, they both talked about the difficulty of dealing with the fame Harry Potter brought them.

David Yates (director of the last 4 Harry Potter movies) said: "One thing that David [Heyman, producer] and the studio spoke to me about was Emma is not sure she wants to come back [for the 5th movie] to do another Potter"

Tom Felton: "People definitely forget what she took on and how gracefully she did it. Dan and Rupert, they had each other. I had my cronies, whereas Emma was not only younger, she was by herself."

Emma explained that she found an old diary entry that she made years ago, where it was clear that ‘at times, I was lonely’.

During Emma’s one-on-one chat with Rupert, the pair related to each other on how they both felt when the global fanfare was building, with the Little Women star saying that it was around the time of Order of the Phoenix ‘when things started getting spicy for all of us’.

‘You were considering pulling out, I’ve never really spoken to you about that,’ Rupert said.

‘Yeah. I think I was scared. I don’t know if you ever felt like it got to a tipping point where you were like, this is kind of forever now,’ Emma replied, as her former co-star agreed.

Rupert shared that he ‘had moments like that kind of all the way through’, stating: ‘I also had sort of similar feelings to Emma, contemplating what life would be like if I called it a day. We never really spoke about it. I guess we were just going through it at our own pace, we were kind of in the moment at the time. It just didn’t really occur to us that we were all probably kind of having similar feelings.’

Emma added that ‘the fame thing had finally hit home in a big way’.

However, ‘no one had to convince’ her to stay.

‘The fans genuinely wanted you to succeed, and we all genuinely have each other’s backs. How great is that?’ she said, as she looked back on her experience fondly.

 Talking about Tom, Emma said:

"I walked into the room where we were having tutoring. The assignment that had been given was to draw what you thought God looked like, and Tom had drawn a girl with a backward cap on a skateboard. And I just don't know how to say it – I just fell in love with him. I used to come in every day and look for his number on the call sheet, it was number seven, and if his name was on the call sheet, it was an extra exciting day. He was three years above me and so for him he was like: "you're like my little sister".

Tom said: "I think I was in the hair and make-up chair and someone said something along the lines of, 'Yeah, she had a crush on you.' I became very protective over her. Yeah, I've always had a soft spot for her and that continues to this day. There's always been something that's like, I don't know, a kinship."
