But then I read the article and I thought it portrayed him in a good light.
He's obviously very fond of his time on HP and whereas the others have moved on, I think he just enjoys recounting an enjoyable part of his life.
And certainly the article/interview isn't only about HP.

it was just before she met jay and just around when she been linked to that guy from razor light and Frances broeil or whatever his name was she was single in the February of that year and so was dan having just broken up with laura o'tool or something like that.

Dan actually addressed not only the shipping with Emma but the supposed Valentine’s meet up as an example in an interview of the tabloids making stuff up and said they neither of them were within miles of the place they were “seen” let alone together there. He specifically called that “meet up” out. I’ll have to try and find it, I can’t remember if it was print or tv but I laughed out it at the time.

“Most of the time” stars don’t reference specific rumors, but not all the time. I wouldn’t be in any way surprised if Daniel has sometimes referenced a specific rumor and called it out as garbage. He probably didn’t say the specific article or paper like DM or whatever, he prob just mentioned “the Valentine’s Day date was made up…”
He’s a pretty straight talking guy. Emma doesn’t normally address specific rumors but she does sometimes as well.
Emma has done it for sure mainly as she is so active on social media (well back in the day) and called out rumours all the time about fake casting and just this year the 'getting married and retired rumour'.

Rupert is the most talented and underrated of the trio, he doesn't work as hard as Daniel and doesn't get as much attention as Emma.
