I genuinely didn’t want this reboot to be a thing in the first place… But I’ll admit… I didn’t think they would have problems on set before the first season even came out. Because if there’s already bullying problems the next 9 ish years or however long they’re locked into their contracts is going to feel never ending. Especially because even the OG cast got breaks and had time do do things without each other. These kids can’t even go to school to avoid each other thanks to the contracts their parents signed for them.

These child actors already have agencies, social media promotion, and career expectations before they even get the role, even for the smaller parts. The original movie cast entered because they loved the books, or because it simply happened without understanding what the future would bring. Now many enter already thinking about success and fame, so of course the atmosphere is far more competitive.

Don’t forget that they also already have PR teams before their first tv/movie acting credit as well. Because tell me why I keep getting “Arabella is better than Emma” stories before the first season is even out. Like don’t get me wrong I don’t care for this show, therefore I don’t care for comparison either… But I keep getting heavy PR articles about a show whose first season hasn’t even been viewed by critics much less actual audiences yet. Like I know PR teams are meant to boost their clients visibility… but at least don’t make it this obvious.

Half of the year in a few weeks: Another year is passing without even the slightest hint of any new work from Emma.
I'm sure she'll reach 10 years without having done anything (relevant).
It used to seem unlikely to me, but now it seems increasingly certain given how inactive she's been.

They were made up though, and she had repeatedly confirmed that in interviews. I’m not sure what more you want her to say. Just because she hasn’t been in a movie doesn’t mean she doesn’t intend to be or isn’t trying to make something. Right now though she seems focused on her studies, but we don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes.

I'm sorry, but since when has an actress's 30s been their prime time? For actors, maybe... but that is also the same industry that considers 30 old for women. Because I've genuinely lost count of how many times there's been a "She looks good for her age" headline... meanwhile, the actress in question is in her early thirties at the absolute oldest.

I can't believe I'm about to quote Justin Bieber on here... "but it's not clocking to (some) of you that she's standing on business." She keeps telling y'all that she's taking a break from the industry. And has repeatedly shown interest in working behind the scenes and in writing more than in acting or being in front of a camera. And yet, every year, someone in the comments complains about her lack of acting roles. Like this is the same Emma who has always said education is more important to her than acting. And actively choose to go back to university to work on a degree unrelated to acting... Don't get me wrong, I also miss seeing her on screen... But at the same time, she also worked nonstop from ages 9-26, so I understand why she would want to walk away from the industry. And I'd rather her pursue a career she's actually interested in (writing and directing) than one she might feel obligated to do (acting) because that's what people associate her with.

Not at all, there’s now great roles for women in their late 30s, 40s and 50s. It’s very different to 20 or even 10 years ago. Women get more complex roles as they age now.

30s is an awkward time for an actress as she’s past the sex symbol and love interest point but a bit early for the complicated/flawed woman roles than now come in forties, or late thirties at the earliest. I think those will eventually be more interesting to the likes of Emma. She’d be great in something like Vladimir eventually.

To be fair, whilst I do agree with you, she’s also said she’ll act again but it’s about right role the right environment as others above have said, which is super important to her. Btw I’m also fully for her working behind the camera and I think down the line she could potentially or eventually give herself the acting roles that might interest her, but people here also seem to be totally ignoring how important she’s said getting the right thing where she doesn’t have to fracture herself is, and just seem to want her to do anything in front of the camera. Which she has made very very clear she is not willing to do just for the sake of it.

She hasn't been to Cannes in 12 years, and she was only there for a few days last year.
So why do people talk as if she were a regular at the festival?
I look at the facts: she’s been saying for years that she wants to focus on writing and directing, and here we are, it’s been four years since she directed that Prada commercial, and nothing since.
After so many signs, it seems to me that expecting anything from Emma at this point is wishful thinking.
Clearly, she’s not obligated to do it, but it makes me chuckle a bit that every so often she gives interviews complaining about Hollywood and how it works, about her many interests, that she writes, dances, paints… and in the end, we see nothing. We only see a woman who travels the world, studies at college, and attends elite events three times a year.
There’s no career left. There’s no actress left to follow. She’s not even a celebrity anymore. Being a fan of Emma is being a fan of a memory.

That’s kind of the entire point. She isn’t obligated to show us anything in the first place. She already gave up 19 years of her life (ages 9-28) to preform for an audience… wasn’t that enough? She’s clearly trying to pivot into doing more behind the scenes work… And has admitted that she isn’t exactly dying to be in front of a camera… so why are y’all surprised that she’s taking a step back from the industry. I’d rather her be happy ad working towards whatever degree she wants privately. Then to be in the public eye for the sake of it and being in projects she doesn’t even believe in.

Nobody is pretending she’s a Cannes regular. But given she went last year, the programme this year was very poor in comparison, so it’s not surprising she didnt go this year. Also that she hasn’t been to Cannes for 12 years, except last year, is an interesting sentence lol

I have to admit I kind of feel bad for Emma. She’s practically been yelling from the rooftops that she’s disillusioned with the industry. Yet every couple months there’s people complaining that she isn’t in the industry in the way they would like. And the really sad part is, that this isn’t exactly new. She’s had one foot out the door ever since the second Potter movie came out… I’d rather her finish whichever degree she’s going for and then decide if she wants to come back to the industry on her own terms. Then for her to feel obligated to do projects she doesn’t even like for strangers to criticize.

She’s never done projects for the sake of it in her career. She’s always been very choosey. This isn’t super new. I think she’ll come back making her own stuff or with select people. She’s openly said she only wants to work with a limited number of people in the industry that she feels she really trusts and work in the way she wants to. I’m not sure why people are surprised that we haven’t seen anything. She’s said she’s working on stuff but this all takes time and she clearly wants a balance with her personal life too.

I don’t care, guys. It’s my opinion. I just want her to work so I can see her in movies. That’s it. I don't care about her education, what she does in her day-to-day life, or the thousands of things she does that never see the light of day.
Of course I complain and feel disappointed, and that's okay. People talk to me as if I care about sounding selfish, but the truth is, I don't: I grew up watching her on screen, and I miss seeing her on screen, nothing else matters to me.

The occasional moan is totally fine and understandable, but when it’s more than that other users of the blog do care about you repeatedly sounding and being selfish - even if you say that you don’t. Eden has created a blog that generally has a nice enough atmosphere and a bit of community. It of course has various opinions and it absolutely doesn’t need to be all rainbows and consensus, but people usually at least try and avoid behaviors that they know are annoying, rather than not caring, and it’d be good to generally keep it that way.

I think people should be grateful for the years she gave, including much of her childhood, to acting and for all the beautiful memories and nostalgia she created. Nothing in life lasts forever, and people change.
She is not a fictional character or someone from a book where you can just keep writing continuations. She is a real person, and it’s better for her to step away than force herself to continue and become unhappy, while also damaging the beautiful memories people already have of her work.

Just a heads up… but there’s a rumor that she isn’t and hasn’t been with Gonzalo for a while now. And that the idea of them still being together is mostly driven from his side. But to be completely honest the source of that rumor has a 50/50 track record… So I guess only time will tell.

Where’s the rumor? I honestly wouldn’t be surprised. We just saw them in published pictures a month after they were spotted together and then never again afterwards. She went to LA with friends and spent her 36th birthday with her friends in Japan without him. She also looked a bit forlorn in those Japan pictures as well. That guy has a weird family and a strange vibe. It was over before it really had a chance to start.

Those pics seemed a bit staged to me. Not pap pics, but something like they both knew someone was there taking pictures and then got permission to release them. I’d say their relationship lasted 3 months tops, like a hook-up type thing. She was in France in January, deuxmoi circulated rumors they were an item in February, then those pictures came out in late March. Then, she was never seen with him again. She was in LA and enjoying her birthday with her friends in Japan with no sight of Gonzalo.

The stories that came out about their relationship said that she was into Gonzalo and very happy. And how he’d already introduced her to his parents. Then, there was that odd click bait story about how her friends didn’t seem to like him because of his family and his past behavior and behavior in general, especially towards women. Something similar came out about Shailene and Aaron Rodgers and they were done soon after. There was also that rumor where secretly, Gonzalo was hooking up with and following IG models. If that “meeting his parents” thing is true, then that shows desperation on his end. Imagine introducing someone to your family and then breaking up less than 6 months. (If that’s even true).

Every time she’s spotted with someone new there’s a “she’s met their parents” story out less than a month later… And then we never see the guy again. At this point I’m lowkey its “sources” trying to make those relationships seem more serious than they actually are. In comparison to the relationships she’s had that preface that they’ve actually been together for a while. And we see her get spotted with the guy after people figure out who he is.

Or he love bombed her and it up in the air as to what they are now… Because old money Mexican families aren’t exactly welcoming to outsiders. And them being allegedly together at that wedding in the first week of February is fast. Especially because the report says they got together in December… a month and some change isn’t exactly enough time for anybody to know each other well enough to take them to a private wedding and introduce them to your family regardless of networth.

I’m not saying it’s the case in this instance but often the met the parents “sources” are the exact same as the engaged “sources” - they are made up by someone, either the journalist themselves or someone else, and then the media just use other media stories as the “source”. It’s often all completely BS.

Don't blame her for stepping back with her fortune. She has the money to do whatever she wants. She said once that she plans to write and create her own film. Acting, I do not believe, is going to happen. She was excellent as Heromoine, but she has developed very little since that role, and now she is getting older. There are a lot of really talented young women out there. Emma's strength is her intellectual acuity. She has to decide now how to use this gift. I hope not modeling. Too many of these gals around. We will see. As for the new HP series. I heard it was going well, but the actor who was playing Snape had problems with being threatened. I felt sorry for him. Fans do not own the films. They can decide to go to see the film or let it be, but to want to boycott someone or a film is nonsense. Just because one do not like it, it does not mean others do not.
